America the Beautiful

download

We have no plans for the 4th of July but we do have plans on the 5th.  We had our fill of fireworks five days ago when we stupidly overnighted at the casino which was less than a block away from nearly a dozen fireworks stands.  On Saturday we have reservations on the ferry to Whidbey Island.  We plan on devouring some luscious ribs that Joe’s going to be taking out of his smoker.  On top of that …. he’s been out crabbing.

He sent me this picture of his catch.  I’m just sure all these crabs are for ME!  I’m just sure of it.

welcome

I loved this picture on Pinterest of the soldier and his dog.

Happy Birthday, America!  I’m proud to be an American and I've felt that way every day of my life.  I think Americans should be proud to be American just as Canadians should be proud to be Canadian.  At times I really do tire of negative write-ups about America when there are so many good things about it.   No place is perfect but I can’t think of a place I’d rather be than in this country.  There may be things I don’t agree with but many more I do.  We have so much to be thankful for and like Chuck and Anneke, I also believe this is a day to thank all those who have given so much to defend it.  Their blog is HERE .   Happy Birthday, America!

One big task has been accomplished.  I found a laptop I could live with at Costco.  I know it’s about time since I’ve been looking at them for a few months now.  There are a few new fangled things on this one that my old one didn’t have.  To begin with it has 8 GBs more of memory.  I doubt I’ll notice that much though since I no longer use programs that are memory hogs.  This one also has a fingerprint reader, touchscreen, lighted keyboard and 1 TB drive.  I’m not so sure I’m comfortable with having a fingerprint reader being my main access to the computer.  After all, computers certainly can have a hardware malfunction.  We will see about that.  Getting a new computer is a lot of work and very time consuming.  When I had thought about taking my old laptop in to a repair shop, I transferred everything then to an external drive.  So, at least I didn’t have to do that again.  The hard part isn’t the transfer but the sorting, downloading and installing of programs.  It’s been an all day plus adventure.  One thing I have discovered is my setup for the blog font isn’t quite right yet.

While we were at Costco checking out the computers we also wandered by the meat counter.  I imageswas hungry for salmon but the pieces were too big.  We settled on a pack of two “prime” rib eye steaks.  These steaks absolutely melted in our mouths.  It’s not often we have a choice to buy “prime” cuts of meat.

When in Sequim we also visited the membership park we had made reservations at next week.  After checking it out, we’re thinking we’ll just hang around the Elks there instead but we’ll only be there a couple days.  At least the Elks has fairly decent cell service which means fairly decent internet.  We’ve had rotten cell and internet over the last week. It’s been intermittent.  Sometimes we have it and sometimes we don’t.

We move into our waterfront site on Sunday.  I hope the morning clouds go away by then.  We’re looking forward to wonderful views, CLEAR skies and a little kayaking.

‘Tis life on the road.

Ignoring a child's disrespect is the surest guarantee that it will continue.

  1. You're better at the electronics than me. The thought of transferring all of that from your computer would be overwhelming to me.

  2. I don't know about the fingerprint either. And did not choose to get a touch screen. I have such a devil of a time keeping my phone screen clean from my oily fingers. . The food looks delish.

  4. Those crabs look delicious!

I am going computer shopping with my brother tomorrow. I do not look forward to all the updating that will need to be done for Windows 8 and then there are all those programs I will have to download and install. YUCK! Good luck with you new computer. Not sure what we will find tomorrow.

  5. I think I'd be uneasy about that fingerprint password, too. Hope it works well for you. Technology is grand...when it keeps working.

Happy Independence Day to you both, we're lucky to live in such a wonderful nation! :c)

  8. Hope you got your fill of crab! Usually the computers with finger print ID can be accessed with just password if you set it up that way. What do you do when you have a bandage on that finger? Have fun :-).

  9. I have changed to a PIN instead of a password for the laptop, so far I think it is better:)
