Quartzsite -- We Have Arrived

Arriving back in Arizona on Friday meant we had one day more than we figured we would.  There were a few things we needed to get done.  One of those was a major grocery shopping trip.  It’s not that they don’t have grocery stores in “Q”.  They do.  It’s just that the variety and price of the items pale in comparison to what is available around the Phoenix area.

Laundry and visiting with relatives were other things we needed to take care of.  We successfully rolled all of into Saturday.  Obviously, it was a very full day but it cleared our calendar off on Sunday.  What did that mean to us?  It meant we were out of the big city.  We were on our way to Quartzsite.  For a while there we were beginning to wonder if we’d to be able to head west but things just fell into place.  Even though “Q” packs in thousands of RVs during January, it still is laid back and nothing like an RV park in the big city.  We were definitely looking forward to the sat01_thumb5short time we would be spending there … definitely.

We pulled into the new Chevron station in Quartzsite just before noon on Sunday.  Our propane tank was empty and we topped off our fuel tank.  It was just a few miles more to where we planned on spending the next two weeks.

Once set up we decided to drive through town as we headed to Silly Al’s.  We had been looking forward to their great bruschetta pizza again since we left last February.  We were terribly disappointed.  It was nothing like the pizza they made last year.  Matter of fact, there wasn’t much to the pizza at all.  Oh well …. there is a new competitor in town.  It’s Jerry’s Pizza. That's not all that's new in town.  Quartzsite now even has a trolley!!!  The vendors are out and the RVers have arrived.  The town is starting to pop but the real long lines don’t usually start until the Big Tent opens.  It’s up but not open yet.

Later in the afternoon we heard this “bang bang bang” on our door.  Our friends Tom and Diane stopped by to see where we were parked.  Monday they’ll be moving their motorhome close to ours.  By Wednesday we’ll have a whole “herd” of folks we know parked around us.  The campfires will start, the food will flow, stories and tales begin and plans charted for get togethers after Q made.  This is where it all begins.  We’re looking forward to the good times with good friends.

‘Tis life on the road.

  5. Oh dang...you are making me so homesick for the Q. I hope the whole "herd" has a safe and fabulous time. Why did Kelly have to pick this summer to get married...lol

  6. Well, we're not far from the Q - just about 90 minutes but that's probably as close as we'll get. It's just a little too crowded for our liking.

  7. Wish I was there. Have enough fun for both of us, please, but you don't HAVE to eat my share of the food. :)
