Casino Parking

The other day I mentioned I had a project to do.  That was transferring all my personal stuff off of my computenogeekr and then taking it to the shop to get it fixed.  The screen had been blinking more and more.  Its days are definitely numbered.  I figured I’d just run it into Best Buy and get it back in a few days.  Well, that’s not how it works.  The Geek Squad fiddles with software but if you have a hardware problem they send it in to have someone else to fix it.  The guaranteed time to return it (hopefully) was somewhere between two and five weeks!  Well, that wasn’t going to happen.  With a possibility of not getting it back for five weeks.  I left the Geek Squad taking my computer with me.  Now I’ll need to replace it sooner than later. Finding the perfect replacement isn’t always easy.  I have my list of requirements and have already checked out online sites.  The problem is when you’re on the road sometimes it’s hard to find a place to ship it.

When I left my iPhone behind I also left behind the games I had  on it.  Thus, I needed to find a few good card games but this time with an Android operating system.
hearts
ginrummy
cribbage spades

Finding good games can be difficult.  At least you can try them out until you find some you like before you donate a dollar or two to eliminate the ads.  After trying several I finally found a few.  They were all by the same company, Concrete Software.  A couple of the games are multiplayer.  Since we can’t find anyone to play spades with us anymore, at least now we can play against each other.  Spades has a multiplayer feature and Terry can play on his phone and me on mine.  Fun!

20140626_114700Last year I bought an 8” Acer tablet with Windows 8.1.  I loved the tablet but knew a little bigger screen would be even better.  So, last September-ish I bought a Microsoft Surface Pro.  The Surface Pros are amazing.  You can do almost everything on it you can do on your laptop.  The downsize is it is also bulky and heavy for a tablet.  In addition, the hard drive is only 128gb.    I used it very little but kept trying to use it more.  However, I never got to the point of loving it.  So, what did I do?  I put it on Craigslist.  I got the normal scams such as offering to mail payment with a bogus check for a larger amount than price listed.  In addition, there were plenty of offers wanting to know if I’d sell it from $100 to $225 less than listed price. There were also lots of scammers.  Most of them I ignored without responding to the email or text.  However, I finally did sell the Surface Pro for $25 less than asked.  Now I’m going to try to readjust to our little Acer tablet.  We’ll see how that goes.

So, what’s next?  To begin with we’re going to be back on the road again.  Where are we going?  Well, we really don’t know every place for sure.   We’re just itching that hitch.

My dad used to say that company starts imagessmelling like fish when they hang around more than a few days.  I’m sure we’re smelling like fish.  We’ve been hanging around for way more than a few days.

With the kayaks loaded we were ready to go and all we had to do was lock up the cabin.     Since we left earlier than actually planned …. we really didn’t know exactly where we were going but ended up at a casino for a couple nights.  That's not exactly what we had in mind but at least that hitch will be itched.  There are certainly a lot of casinos in Washington.  I'm sure this stay will probably be a very expensive stay.  The RV sites aren't expensive but extra curricular activities with the slot machines can be spendy.

The bad thing is we have poor internet and super poor cell phone coverage but we can live without it for a couple days.   At least we hope we can.

Put a little food out and the deer don’t care what you do.

‘Tis life on the road.

If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.

  1. Yes they can be. You should come to Montana. Every place you look you see little casinos with slot machines! Didn't know it was legal here. Good luck and have fun.

  4. I love casinos. Every time I go to one I whip out my wallet and put one quarter in a slot machine. When that quarter is gone, so am I (usually to the buffet). :c)

I sympathize with you on computer problems. Of course, my computer problem started with a busted window shade, where I stepped on it by accident while removing the shade for repair.

  6. My puter died, and I got another with 8.1. Trying to learn everything is difficult. Want to add photos, but have no idea.

We have the hitch itch but, as you know, can't leave yet. Bummer! Have fun at the casinos.

  8. Oh the joys of computer repair and replacement....it's almost worse with so many options! Hope you find a combination that works best for you :-). I love my Toshiba 17" with Windows 8.1, but it's not for everybody. I'm sure your travels will find you someplace you can get the kayaks off the truck, but in the meantime enjoy playing at the casino!

  9. Five days would be an extremely long time to fix a computer but 5 weeks is an eternity! Congrats on selling your Surface Pro for close to what you were asking.
