Beach, Birds, Kites and Golf ...

We like Seaside, Oregon.  Maybe it’s because we can hear the ocean even though we’re not at the ocean.  Or, maybe it’s just because we know the ocean is close even when we can’t see it.  I’m not sure of the answer but it’s just a hop, skip and a jump from our kids’ place.  With the travels we’ve done, anything around 70 miles fits into that category.  Wi-Fi isn’t great here but that could be due to the thousands of people trying to get online at the same time we want to be online.  The beach definitely draws people to it.

On my previous blog I was asked where we were going that we were putting our motorhome in storage.  We have no big plans -- at least not right now.  We have a little lake cabin and that’s where we figure we’ll be spending about ten days before heading back to the coast or someplace.  So, the motorhome will go in storage while we're at the lake. We did the same thing last year -- not a big plan there.

I’m not saying there aren’t other places we want to go while it is in storage. It seems we always have something on our plate.  We tend to get so busy around here though that the summer just flies by.  We thought about a little trip to Yellowstone but discovered we were a little late as a few thousand other folks had already thought about it too. All that was left were a couple hotels outside the park at over $400 a night ---- NOT!

We’re still hoping to work in a trip to the San Juan Islands for a few days to view the eagles along with a little whale watching while kayaking (catch that, Joe).  However, I prefer to do things on the spur of the moment and making reservations for a specific time and a specific date isn't something I like to do.  We’ll have to see how that works out. 

We’ve had a fun time with Linda and Ed.  It’s nice to be around people who like to do pretty much the same things we like to do.  We’ve even had a golf outing on a beautiful ocean view course.  It had been a mighty long time since any of us had been golfing but we had a great time.  There was a lot of laughing and that’s what it’s all about.  

Terry’s golf shoes certainly weren’t what they used to be.  We’re guessing a new pair of these may be in his future …. Happy Father’s Day to him.

  

This week will be like Christmas for me.  Since not everything is available where we are, I’ve been busy ordering online.  To begin with I had to order an eBook from Barnes and Noble to help with tips and tricks on the new Samsung devices we have.

Amazon has played a big part in seeing that our “necessities” arrive this week.  The cover we ordered for our pickup bed has already arrived but we have to get back in town to get it. I also ordered  replacement housing for by GoPro Hero camera, an extra charging cord for the Samsung Note 3 and a S-Flip cover for it.  I usually try to use a link from a friend’s website to order on Amazon.  However, sometimes I forget.  By using the link on her website she gets a little extra $$$ to help with her husband’s prescription costs from the things I purchase.

We were hoping for the wind to come up today so we could go fly those kites.  It wasn't windy at the park but we knew it would be on the beach.  Instead of going to the main beach in Seaside, we drove south to Ocean View Way.  There are usually fewer people at this location and many times there are even surfers to watch.  We figured it would also be the best place to fly kites.  Terry’s Blue Angel kite hit the air just like you would expect for a Blue Angel pilot.  It was high in the sky for quite a bit before Terry decided to attempt a landing.  Needless to say, the landing was perfect. 

However, the same wasn’t to be for my little butterfly.  It couldn’t fly without bending over.  Soon we were back to the kite store and had another one in our hands.  This time it was a perfect take-off and landing.

We also watched a feeding frenzy at the shoreline.  Pelicans, seagulls and a few other species were definitely getting fed every time those waves rolled in.  Since there were a ton of birds, we figured there were a ton of fish coming in too.  The birds were interested in watching the waves and we were interested in watching  both the waves and the birds.
