Déjà Vu – Kayaking Canals of Parker

feb6_1

My blogs are beginning to sound like a broken record.  It’s the same thing over and over and over again … friends, kayaks, bingo.  However, right now that’s the way I like it.  It won’t always be like this but as long as we’re where we’re at, that’s probably going to be what we do and so goes the déjà vu.

We’re doing a little bit of that and a whole bunch of this.  For the most part we have gorgeous blue skies, a sun that’s nearly always shining, full hookups and the blue waters of the Colorado River right out the door.  There’s not too much wrong with that.

The only thing a little different on Wednesday was that we had our motorhome cleaned and spiffed up.  These fellows (Gotwax.com) did such a good job that I was afraid they were going to charge us double.  They spent close to an hour and a half getting all the sand and dirt off the coach.  Of course, most of this was from the Quartzsite area.  Needless to say, we were very pleased.

Next, we met Lana and Nate carrying their kayaks down to the river.  That was the end of doing nothing.  We picked ours up and followed them.  Soon we discovered a new piece of Parker.  There are canals in Parker … loads of canals.  It’s the Venice of the Colorado River.  The canals weave in and out around gorgeous homes.  Many of them are rented for the weekend or by the week.  A few dogs barked and their owners waved.  No one invited us on their patio for a bite to eat or a drink.  What fun the day was and I know we’ll be back to this area in a day or two to explore more. (Freddy .. you and Delcie would have loved this area!)

feb6_7We said “ so long” to Steve on Wednesday.  He’s heading back to the big city.  However, a few more folks we know moved in.  It’s the coming and going of the group that makes it fun.   When our GFI started giving issues we were glad to have Paul come to the rescue.  Thanks, Paul!

It's always fun to have a changing of the people.  I guess it's kind of like a changing of the guard.  Some of them keep others in line and some contribute to delinquent behavior.  I've got to say this group has contributed to delinquent behavior because when they're gone, I'm going to have to do something about the extra pounds they've "made" me add on.  I have no chance at all while they're around .....  but it is fun to have folks to share some time with.

As we travel down the roads, fellow RVers come into and out of our travels.  Some we have more in common with than others and some we see more often.   It's great having the best of all worlds and people from all walks of life come into our life.  With this latest group we had a little reunion in the park's Tiki Room. We've known this group a mighty long time.  Actually, since the beginning of our RVing days.  I'm blaming them for the extra pounds I've found.

However, we were soon off leaving behind Julie, Mike, Sue, Paul (aka Soos) and Carol.  Bingo was calling and we headed to the Clubhouse for bingo with Linda and Ed (aka Traveling Along).   Friday and Saturday is karaoke so just like I said, we’re keeping ourselves pretty busy.

No!  Not the African Queen but the Arizona Queen!

We have another week until our time is up. Terry’s brother is flying into Phoenix.  We figure we’ll spend at least a day with him while he is in town.  We still have things to do in this area though before we head out.  We want to go to Lake Havasu,  revisit the Desert Bar plus make many more trips on the Colorado with the kayaks.

feb6_10Right now the plan is to head southeast. There are many rivers and lakes in that direction we hear calling our names.  Besides that it’s a continuation of my search to document more of my paternal southern  roots.  I hope to visit  local libraries, cemeteries and court houses.  I've visited many of them before but there are more I haven't visited.   It won’t always be déjà vu.

‘Tis life on the road.

  3. Wow, we didn't know that there are so many waterways to discover around here.
Thanks for sharing. It definitely is a new option for us to go and try.
I like making new friends, that's one of the best part of travelling. There are so many interesting people around one would never meet in a "normal" life.

  6. You may be "stuck" in a "rut", but I can't think of a better place to be in one!

Didn't know there were canals in Parker. We'll have to give them a try next winter with our Sea Eagle kayak. It looks like a marvelous place to paddle and there are no gators to worry about... :c)

  8. So where do all those canals hide? I've never seen them in five years of visiting Parker. Of course, I rarely get off the two main streets since everything I need is there.
