Family Reunion - Part 2

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Our family reunion was a huge success.  We had lots of comments regarding how nice it was.  It was such a success that everyone wanted this family to continue doing it in the future.  Well, that isn’t going to happen.  Reunions are fun but if you’re hosting, it’s a lot of work and a lot of expense.


 

This reunion was different than previous ones because there were lots of activities planned.  The weather was perfect and it kept people outside doing something instead of just sitting around and visiting.  That actually was the intent.  They could still visit and have fun too.  Lots of games were planned but Tammi was in charge of the games and she kept them going at a fast pace and cut them off when necessary.  Again, it was perfect, perfect, perfect.

Friday night we had hamburgers and sat outside.  We had several "cousins" drop by at different times.  The grill was busy cooking a continual stream of hamburgers.

Decorating started Friday evening and continued on into Saturday morning.  Terry is shown hanging the Texas sized fly swatter.

Family pictures were plastered in groups all over the wall including signs for the outhouse, saloon, chuckwagon, Jail and other silly little "Texas-style" signs.

I started sending out reunion reminders via printed postcards in January.  These postcards were sent out with a Texas theme.  The final reminder was sent about 3 weeks prior to the reunion with a schedule of events and a map.  We actually had several folks show up that hadn’t been for years.  I’m sure it was due to the fact they had been enticed with food, games and lots of prizes.

Prizes were set up behind registration desk.  The idea was to give tickets for each event.  People put their winning tickets in the cup behind each item they wanted to win.

It’s taken a bit to go through the several hundred pictures and try to decide what ones to post.  I had pictures and I also got the pictures my cousin took.  So, there were a bunch. 

Michael took charge of the registration desk with Tammi making sure everyone did as they were supposed to.

Bags were handed out to everyone.  Inside the bags were bandanas and badges with a little treat or two or three.  The bandanas were needed for a game.

I selected 66 of them to reduce in size but I knew I couldn’t post 66 pictures on a blog or even on several blogs.  I have to pick and choose.

The more pictures in a blog, the harder it is for those on aircards to pull up and especially in some locations more than others. I know there are many times I can’t read a blog at all because the pictures won’t load due to bad internet.  So, I do apologize for this!!  Really I do.

Of course, there was posing to do.  I had ordered a couple of these cowgirl vests.  I thought Sandi and Jordan would wear them.  They wanted no part of the vests.  So, guess who wore them?  The rest of us!

We always have seafood.  Here is the second slab of smoked salmon.  The first slab is still in my freezer!

Food, food and more food.  It was finally time to dig in.

It was finally time to get in the chow line.  It may look  like Lee and Sabrina are first but I grabbed a plate and dished some salmon on it before it was gone.

Lots of food and lots of bull went around at the tables.

There’s more to come, of course.  We had games, more food and prizes to do.  It was a busy, busy day.  Group pictures were scheduled for 2:00.  That was next on the agenda.
