Snowbird Potluck and Some Goodies

1Aug__2Food just seems to be one of my favorite things.  I love eating at new places and experiencing what different restaurants serve.  Sometimes the experience is great and other times not so great.  Our son, Lee, celebrated a birthday last Sunday.  The food he wanted was pizza.  So, off we went to his pizza place of choice ….. and, it was amazing pizza with lots of toppings piled high.  I think I’ve just found my favorite pizza place.

The other night we found another new restaurant and again, we lucked out with a great experience.  The only thing I didn’t like was the price for the fried pickles.  Actually, it wasn’t pickles.  It was just one pickle cut in thirds and then deep fried.  The slices were delicious but the price wasn’t.  The one pickle was $3.95.  However, the steamed clams and fettuccine made up for it.

Last weekend we had a parking lot sale and a nature craft in our community.  Terry’s job was to sell soda and help with concessions. My job was to work with the kids and the nature craft project.  This week it was making the dice for Yard Yahtzee.  The blocks were made out of 4x4 wood blocks.  The kids loved painting the blocks and the dots on them.  Afterwards, they were taught how to play. Since it's Yard Yahtzee the blocks are put in a bucket and then the "dice" are rolled out of that.  What fun it was and now folks have a new game to play with a group outside!  Tammi always comes up with some fun ideas.

Just because I was working with the crafts didn’t mean there wasn’t time to shop.  You know how it goes, one person’s junk is another person’s treasures.  Well, I found a few treasures.

Tuesday we had a Snowbird Potluck.  It seems if you’re in the North during the summer, there are always a few snowbirds around.  We found quite a few of them.  One lady is from Kissimmee, Florida which is close to Orlando.  That’s one place we plan on being this winter.  Her daughter owns Boggy Creek Airboat Rides.  I looked it up on the web and decided this is one place I want to visit for sure.  Note to self … call and make appointment when there! Here’s their website -  http://bcairboats.com/

These are the decorations I made for the tables at the Snowbird Potluck.  I had to make six of them but thought they definitely fit the theme of snowbird. There’s a little candle sitting inside on the snow but the picture doesn’t show it.

We tend to have a few deer who know how to get up to the door and beg for treats.  This is one of them.  We saw a couple of his 4-point relatives.  They were certainly big ones!

Terry heads back to Phoenix tomorrow.  We have to get up about  3 AM to get to the airport on time so tomorrow will be an early one.

‘Tis life on the road.

  2. I have never seen a pizza as big as those two. WOW.

Yard Yahtzee sounds like a great way to keep the kids entertained. Looks like the parking lot sale was a big success. Your decorations looks so cool. Good job.

Thanks for the link to the airboat ride. I will look at the website. May go on our list.

  3. That is some mile high pizza for sure. Where does one start to eat it? I'd have to wear a bib or I'd be wearing some of that pizza! :cO

  4. You are going to have to try out Sal's Gilbert Pizza when you come back this way sometime. You know I don't eat pizza but I even thought their pizza looked good. I loved your baby with all the spots. The deer know who the softies are when it comes to food.
