Starting Our Very Own Bucket List for 2015

bucket1Up until a few days ago this is what our Bucket List looked like.  It was empty.  We hear people talk about their bucket list but we didn’t have one.  Certainly everyone needs one so we decided to start our very own of places we wanted to go for 2015.

What do most people start looking at when they’re getting ready to work on their bucket list?   We figured first of all they’d drag out a map to see where they had been.

That had to be step number one.   After all, don’t you need to know where you’ve been in order to figure out where you want to go?   That’s what we did …. BUT  that wasn’t looking good.  This is where we’ve been   -------------->

We were at a crossroad with decisions.  The US Map was filled up so we looked  at  the other signs we could find just like this one.
<------------

Alas, that was no help either as we’d been to those  places too …..  except for India and no way was India going on our bucket list.  It was one of those not been there and not going there destinations.  I have a quite a few of those.

We had to think about this.  Filling our bucket list wasn’t going to be easy.    There are a lot of things we hadn’t done and many places we had enjoyed but just had not had enough time to see everything we’d like to see.  After all, isn’t it true that we see things with different eyes at different times in our life?

Terry was the first one with an idea.  He wanted to fly on a seaplane.  Seaplane?   Well, we hadn’t done that so “Seaplane” started our bucket list.  That’s going to take a little work to figure out where, when and how on that one but at least it started our bucket list out.  There are many things we’d like to do but we decided to only work on a bucket list for one year at at time.  So, this is our 2015 Bucket List.  It’ll be interesting to see how many of these things we accomplish and how many things we cross off before 2016 rolls around.

Places to Revisit in BLUE
1 Seaplane 7  Disney World / Harry Potter World
2 Karcher Kaverns 8 Great Lakes, Michigan
3 Hot Air Balloon Festival 9 Gettysburg
4 Natchez Trace 10 Ohio Amish / Licking County
5 Key West 11 Charleston
6 Hannibal & Branson     12 Hawaii

The list does have a few additional places tucked between the columns.  We already know we’ll be spending time at Tucson, Quartzsite and, of course, Washington state.  Right now we’re not so sure we’ll be taking our motorhome back to Washington this year.  We’re thinking of leaving it south.  However, that decision is yet to be figured out.

The list is in no particular order and no where near complete (and we all know it's mostly my list). Some of the places on it will be much more difficult to accomplish than others so will definitely be subject to change.  For now we get to have the fun of prioritizing and planning a few short adventures and crossing others off.  For example, I’m guessing we’ll be nixing Karcher Kaverns.  After all, you can’t take your own  pictures as you walk through the caves.  Why would I want to go anyplace I can’t take pictures?

We now have 12 things on our bucket list.  We’ve also already had our first dilemma.  There’s a Hot Air Balloon Festival in Lake Havasu just about the same time we have an opportunity to go and stay here --- >

So, what would you pick?  Lake Havasu boondocking or an ocean view room at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki Beach?  To us that answer was a no-brainer.  It was Bucket List #3 versus Bucket List #12.  I think you probably already know what bucket list number we picked especially when the weather in Arizona looks like this.

Next week we’ll be packing our bags and getting ready to cross the first item off our list.

Okay, so our list might be an aggressive list for one year but you have to start someplace.

What’s on your bucket list for 2015?

‘Tis life on the road.

If you’re bored with life and you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals.

  1. No bucket list for me. I'm the type of person who's most content to live simply and one day at a time.

Although I was 'thinking' of going to the Balloon Fest in Lake Havasu this year so we'll see.

    1. We're not sure yet when we'll be able to head in that direction. I bet you'd get some fantastic pictures.

  2. Go to the Balloon Fiesta in Oct. in Albuquerque. That is worthy of being on anybody's bucket list.

  3. What about the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta? It is great!!!

If you get to half these places, you will be all over that dang map! Don't forget Holmes County when you are doing Amish Country.

    1. You've got to think big so you'll have things to do once you cancel everything else.

  4. Honolulu, HI! Don't forget to hike to the top of Diamond Head from inside the crater. You will get the most awesome photos of Waikiki and Honolulu and the ocean. Be sure to wear tennis shoes and be prepared to climb stairs, bend down to get out through a bunker, and climb more stairs. Love the Hilton Hawaiian Village! Beautiful place.Other must see places: The Pali, Dole Pineapple Plantation to see how pineapple grows and have a pineapple Dole Whip, North Shore to see the surfers in winter, snorkel at Hanauma Bay, drive to Ko Olina out past Kapolei and walk the lagoons. While you're at Ko Olina, check out Disney's Aulani Resort and the other resorts in Ko Olina. If you have time, take a boat tour from Ko Olina Harbor to snorkel with the dolphins! Did I tell you we lived on Oahu for five years. Any other questions, just ask.

    1. We've stayed at The Hilton Hawaiian a couple times in the past. Thanks for the tips on things to do. So little time and so much to cover!

  6. I think it looks like a reasonable list for you two to work with, and when you've been to every state already you now have the luxury of fine-tuning your goals to very specific destinations and activities. We have two things on one list while we have several people on another. Our two things are 1. Being in the shadow of the full solar eclipse on August 22, 2017 (we already have reservations for a campsite in ID), and 2. Visiting every NFL stadium (not see a game, just visit). Can't wait to see where you get to!!

    1. It's fun to set those goals and see how they change. I'm not good at making long range plans. I always seem to have other things come up that seem more important.

  8. Your header photo is absolutely beautiful. The desert is an amazing place during those freak snow storms. Glad to hear I'm not the only one taking a pass on Kartchner Caverns because of the camera policy. Have a wonderful time in Hawaii.

    1. Why would we want to buy someone else's pictures? It doesn't work for me.

  9. Beautiful header photo! Such a contrast between the freezing cold mountains and the "warm", green desert scenery.
My bucket list has two things: getting back on track and getting back home.
Enjoy as long as you can! Life has many surprises.

  11. Looks like you have given it a lot of thought. We have also traveled much of the world and also have a no return list. There are still first time places near and far to go:) I am pretty sure the places to see is still greater than the time I have to see them-but maybe that is not such a bad thing:)

  12. you look like a way better planner than us, but thanks for the ideas! I'd take the beach even without the freak storm in Arizona, that won't come along near as often as a sunny day in Arizona! ;) Happy Travels!
