Santa Barbara


Santa Barbara is known for many things but most of all for its gorgeous beaches.

Stearns Wharf offered us entertainment and beautiful views of the water, the hills and the hanging clouds.

There were a few beggars hanging around for food.

There was plenty to see and especially since it was such a beautiful and clear day.

Santa Barbara is also known as a very expensive place to stay but the Hyatt would certainly be a treat.

The town itself is a cut above many of the beach towns.   We didn’t find much touristy junk around here.  There’s not even a Wal-mart.


There is an Elks lodge just north of the town of Santa Barbara.  It’s a gorgeous lodge with a spa and even a gym. We stayed in the RV park for $25 a night.  In this area that’s a steal.  However, there are definitely issues with that.  Many of the sites are very, very close.  Even though the sites have water and electricity the dump is on the other side of the lodge and it’s locked.  The key is not available until after 9:00 in the morning.  When traveling any distance at all we normally leave before 9:00.  For us we couldn’t dump.

The end is our slide.  We were thankful the neighbor didn’t have a slide.  We didn’t have room on the other side to put down Duchess’ ramp.

    Although I've been up and down California and lived all over, I've only driven through Santa Barbara once. It was beautiful, but too expensive for me to bother with. And - even though $25 is a steal for that area, you'd think you would get enough real estate to put out slides and the dog ramp. Geez...

    I've got to get "Elked". That seems to be a great place to stay. Out here in the East, those kind of accommodations would be very welcome.

    We've never been to Santa Barbara (yet) and sadly now it won't be this year either. :c(

    That definitely is too close for too much comfort. But sometimes we put up with that because of the area we want to see.

    We once visited friends in Santa Barbara and got a group rate at a motel on the beach. The rooms came with special wipes for getting the tar off your feet after you walked on the beach. Not lovely.

    Thanks for the tour and great pics of Santa Barbara. We've driven by the city on several occasions because it just never fit in with our schedule and also because of the high cost of RV Parks. I think we'll have to bite the bullet and change that now.
