Expensive Mischief

There’s definitely been a little "mischief" in the air.  Matter of fact, there’s been mischief brewing even before we started north this spring.    That's true as we've had our fingers in a lot of pots. 

So, let’s back up a bit.  As you know we were dealing with vehicle repairs due to the accident in California.  Next, it was another 3 1/2 weeks until the replacement canopy was received and installed.  Thus, what we thought we would be taking care even before the end of May was delayed.  We had decided this year would be the beginning of a few changes but putting plans in action meant we had to scramble the order of a few things.

The first change was replacing the teeny, tiny “gadabout” trailer we had bought last fall.  It was definitely better than the A-liner we had purchased without a bathroom.  However, it was still smaller than our comfort level and especially after we added Justin’s dog, Buck.  So, was it keep the trailer or keep Buck?  By now, you know the decision we made and, of course, we made the right decision.  Thus, we went through the advertising, selling and then replacing of the trailer   That’s definitely not a fun chore but it was done and the little 20’ “gadabout” was replaced with a 25’ one.

Next was the huge garage sale.  This started with cleaning out a storage shed and much of the contents were donated, sold or stored in a different location.  Who would have thought something we thought was going to be so much fun such as setting up at the Fairgrounds would also be so much work.  It was a relief when that was behind us and no plans to ever do that in the future.

Actually there was a bigger plan but that required the truck and canopy to be back in good shape.  As much as we loved our F150 Ford Laramie, we knew it wouldn’t fit in with what we wanted to do.   So, it was replaced with a 3500 Dodge Lariat.  Stressful?  You bet.  Selling, trading and buying is always stressful.   Of course, once we had the bigger vehicle, we also had to add a slider hitch.  Not a great shot but Robert and Terry can be seen doing just that.

The hardest part of the plan was still ahead.  We also knew it was time to replace our motorhome.  Was it better to do it now or wait until the big RV show in Q?    Well, the more we thought about it, the more we decided we didn’t need to wait.  So, we flew back and forth to Arizona several times.  We packed up the motorhome and rented a storage.  Wow!  It was so hot in Arizona that the air conditioner couldn’t keep up.  What a job that turned out to be and what a relief when that was behind us.

Next was the most stressful part … selling the motorhome and then replacing it.  That required a few more trips back and forth to Arizona (which I didn't post).   This last week alone we made two trips to Phoenix.  Hertz loves us!  We looked, we shopped and dealt with RV salespeople.  That’s not fun.

Did you notice that my Blogger topper changed?  However,  if this blog showed up in your email, the topper was probably omitted.   

Are we done yet?  Absolutely not.  Now comes all that work in reverse.  Obviously, there will be continuing trips to and from Arizona over the next few weeks.  Plus another change may be coming summer of 2018.

 

I can now say even the RV mission has finally been accomplished.   This is the replacement and more about that later.







Every replacement also comes with more add-ons.  With a new height of 13'.4" our first add-on will be an RV friendly GPS and we're still trying to figure out whether it should be another Garmin or Rand McNally.

We’re also busy with five family birthdays that fall between the middle of July and first week of August!  However, those are fun times because it gives an excuse for family to get together.  We certainly like that.  After all, that really is the main reason for spending the summer in Washington state.

Temperatures in the Pacific NW are now exceeding those in Arizona!!  With heat pushing 110f, we’re just thankful it’ll be over soon.  The main task this week is keeping Buck cool.


A little over a month and we'll be on the road again.  It's a little early this year but the kids are busy and our wheels are itching.
