We Were Arizona Bound … Now We’re Here

_10

Our initial trek south ended when we arrived in Las Vegas.  We had no idea how long we’d be there but we did finally unhook the “Roadhouse”.  We’d been in Vegas quite a few times in the past and even stayed in the same park many times.  We thought we’d know what to expect but we were fooled.

Years ago the Thousand Trail park system was the Hilton of RV Parks.   So, what happened over the years?  Many have not been kept up.   A storm hit the Las Vegas park last February.  The debris is still there and upside down shelters are obvious in the pool area.  Clubhouse is closed, weeds are around, bathroom smelly and need of repair.  There was no pool, no hot tub and no Wi-Fi.  Manager said they were waiting on permits. Really??   Plus the sites were small and squisy.  Just think if I’m saying the site was small and squisy, remember we were in our little “Roadhouse” so they were really tight.  Some RVs even had junk stacked behind them.

We did get a chance to visit Gordon Ramsey’s new restaurant at Planet Hollywood, the BurGr.  It was fun and classy.  It was also delicious even though our meat was a little over cooked.  We had thought we’d also like to visit his new Fish’n Chip restaurant in the Linq but that’ll have to come at another time.

Besides that who doesn’t like people watching in Vegas.    Vegas has everyone from the fun dressed ones to the sleek to the sloppy.  Everyone fits in and it’s great entertainment to see the action.

_12One more thing we did (other than visit a few casinos) was meet cousin, Shelley, for lunch at Cheesecake Factory at the North Vegas Outlets.  We chatted for a couple hours before she went on with her errands.  We were at an outlet mall and I desperately needed a new lightweight purse.  So, for me it was either a Kipling or Baggallini and this outlet mall had a Kipling store so there I went.

Thursday we were on the road again leaving Vegas and heading towards Wickenburg.   After being in such a cramped space, listening to the neighbor rev his motorcycle at 6:30 every morning and then hearing the noisy garbage truck whiz by, we figured it was time to move on.  It’s not that I wasn’t up.  I was but listening to that kind of noise in the morning isn’t pleasant.

Wickenburg was our destination but we ended up staying outside of town at North Ranch.  It was a nice park with huge sites.  We met quite a few great people but our cell service was really poor.  Had we known there were so many other RV parks in town, we would have done that instead.  Wickenburg is very much a western town but the streets were nearly dead.  After checking out the little town, we ate on the patio at Ike’s Restaurant and Saloon.  Only one other couple was there ….

Friday we had a short drive into Phoenix.  You can always tell when you’re close to Phoenix because the traffic is horrendous.  Finally, we pulled into an RV site with the “Roadhouse” and unhooked.  Then, we went to pick up the motorhome which had been in storage since April.  If I said it was dusty, that would be a huge understatement.  How in the world does all that dust get inside when everything was closed up?  Well, you can imagine what we did the rest of the day?  It was clean, clean, clean and then move stuff from one RV to the other.  We’re still not done but it sure does feel good to be back in the motorhome.  Now we wish we could find a “reasonable” mobile RV wash to come and do the outside!

_18We know that on hot days it takes a little while for an RV refrigerator to get cold again.  So, when we plugged in we also added a block of ice to the refrigerator and the freezer compartments.   It cooled down fast and now we can transfer food from the Roadhouse to the motorhome.  After that, it’s off to storage for the Roadhouse for a short while.

Now what are our plans?  Other than visiting and eating at restaurants we love in this area, we have no plans right now.  Well, we do have a few ideas and also have a few “irons in the fire” because we certainly don’t plan on sitting still all winter.

‘Tis life on the road.

  7. With all the RVs on the road these days you'd think every park would be putting their best efforts into maintenance. Those onion rings look scrumptious!

  8. On N/W side of Phoenix "basin" Romero, 928-785-0003 / 928-785-7422:
Wash $79 or wash & wax $199, any size. They use tire dressing so let them know if you don't want it.
