Cougar – A little drive

 I really don't have a lot to add to a blog but I like to do an update at least once a week.  One of these days I might want to look back.  It's kind of like a diary,

For the most part we’ve had a pretty nice week.  The sun was shining most of it but now that the weekend is upon us, the rain clouds have started to roll in.   That’s not so bad because rain tends to keep weekenders home. 

On Wednesday we took a little drive beause there was a slight threat of rain the next day.  The drive had to be short because I had a brisket that needed to go in the Traeger.  We headed towards the little town of Cougar even though we mainly just wanted to check out the lakes between here and there.  The drive to Cougar was about 17 miles.  Cougar sits at the base of Mt. St. Helens and it had been quite a while since we’d been there.  It might even have been when we visited Ape Cave several years ago.   The cave  is formed by lava and the 1 1/2 mile hike in the cave is pretty popular.  It begins fairly level but soon becomes pitch dark and requires hikers to climb up walls and over boulders to get to the other end.  It's interesting if you’ve never done it before.  Google it if you’re interested.

The first part of our drive took us over a one lane bridge crossing Lake Merwin. 

Since there was no traffic we even made a stop in the middle of the bridge for one picture in each direction 

Then, we pulled into the parking area.  From there steps led down to the lake.  However, you can’t step off the base of the ladder unless you want to swim in the lake. 

First there was down.                                    Then, it was up.

We continued on our journey with the next stop at the Yale Lake Reservoir.   We  couldn’t stop long.  I still had that brisket to smoke. Besides that I also wanted to do a little drone flying.

Well, one thing we did do was finalize plans for a short trip to Alaska.  For years I’ve wanted to take a ride on the Alaska Marine Highway in one of their ferries.  Well, now we’re going to do that.  The only thing I haven’t booked yet is the flight out of Ketchikan but I’m thinking we’ll just “wing” it.

Other than the above, this has been one of those weeks when there hasn’t been much going on.  We'll just have to see what next week brings.
