It’s Freezing in Arizona

"About the only thing that comes to us without effort is old age."

Winter has finally arrived in Arizona but it’ll only be here for about six days.  We’ve been teased a bit with chilly temperatures but no real cold fronts moved into the center of the state until now.  The predictions for freezing weather and high winds was the reason many RVers stayed off the road and either remained in the parks where they were or found a place to wait out the storm .  Days like this definitely are not an RVers idea of a good time when snowbirding.

 It's not really money. You can only eat it and not shop with it. 

Our site was paid for only until Thursday but with winds we extended a couple more nights.  There was no way we were interested in being on the road.  According to the weatherman gusts were predicted to possibly be up to 58 mph.  

In the meantime we’ve continued to watch numerous RVs back into sites on both sides of us.  Folks using Elks RV parks usually use them for a temporary time.  They rarely homestead the sites but it depends on what lodge they are at.  Some allow it and others don’t.  The place we have been staying has about 26 sites in back of the lodge.  The sites are smaller but the bigger rigs still settle there.  Some hang a little in the road and others angle where they don’t.  We’ve always thought we didn’t want to get caught back there in an emergency of any sort. 

Then, there are what we call four premium sites on the side of the lodge.  We call them premium because even the biggest of rig can usually back in without a problem.  The sites are much, much longer than at most RV parks.  We’ve had some great neighbors here.  We’ve enjoyed watching the different rigs pull in and out next to us.  Most do it in a snap and others …. well, not so much.  We’ve REALLY enjoyed watching them.

I started to detail the events of one fellow who has his wife do the backing.  However, decided it really wasn’t worth it.  His wife really did a good job with such a big rig.   There are all kinds of RVers.  Most are a pleasure to be around and some we’re glad to leave behind.  We are happy to leave this fella behind.  He kept saying they’d been doing this for 30 years. He said it over and over and over and over.  (I’ve  been trying to cut my own hair for 30 years and still can’t do it.)     However, when you get so close to our rig, we can hardly see daylight through the cracks, that’s just too close for me. You’re probably thinking I’m talking about a foot --- nope.  Try closer to 2 or 3 inches!  It's not that the fella did anything wrong.  It was just his mouth about one thing or another. 

 

Yesterday we tried to finish up all we wanted to get done around the big city before we head west.  You know how it goes.  There was laundry to do, Winco, Costco and Sally’s to visit.  Even a stop at Wall-Mart was necessary.  We also knew where an orange tree was that was overflowing with unpicked ripe oranges.  It was my brother’s tree.   Instead of buying oranges at the store, we picked them off his tree while they provided the bags. There’s no reason to leave them there and let the freeze get them.   It was a busy day.  Thank goodness Friday won’t be so full. One more visit with Terry’s mom.  We’re just hoping she doesn’t suggest another trip to the casino after lunch!  

I love the black jelly beans at Winco.  One good thing about black jelly beans or even licorice for that matter is that you normally get them all to yourself.  You don’t have to share because a lot of folks don’t like them.  Yippee!!

That’s it.  Tomorrow it’s off to Quartzsite we go and all the festivities there.  A couple of our friends have already selected our site.  We’re almost ready.
