Snowbird Migration Ends

Tuesday morning rolled around.  It was 4 AM and Terry was up and out the door.  His aunt and uncle had just pulled up and needed a driver to the airport.  Of course, that didn’t mean I continued to sleep in.  I didn’t.  It would be a busy day for sure.

We finished loading the truck and readying the motorhome for storage.  By 8:30 we had driven to the storage lot and backed into our site.  Our motorhome would be there for at least the next six months.  Now it was time to join the thousands of cars during work traffic as we made our way from the east side of Phoenix to the west side and on through the state of Arizona. 

Weather was perfect and travel was easy as we moved across I-10 towards California.  A little over 400 miles later we pulled into a hotel on the other side of the Los Angeles Grapevine in Buttonwillow.  Sleeping in a hotel is a lot different than sleeping in a bed we’re familiar with but the room was clean and we were dead tired.

Wednesday was a longer day.  We were up and over the Siskiyou Mountains.  We said goodbye to California as we crossed into Oregon.  A mere 635 miles later we ended our travel at the Canyonville Resort Casino and Hotel.  Dinner was their buffet and we were really anxious for that. 

Thursday was our last day of travel.   We were just in time to welcome an incoming storm.  It rained, the wind blew and the travel was nasty part of the way.   Still we were certainly happy to know we were near the finish line and would be leaving Oregon behind as the Washington border got closer and our journey’s end neared.    It was a short day since we only traveled about 250 miles.  Our migration north was over for now.  Warm temperatures were forecast for the next few days but we had a lot of work ahead of us.  There’s a lot of winter clean-up to do.  Pine needles, weeds and broken tree limbs seem to be what we decided to tackle first and that’s what we’ve been up to.

We haven’t been able to settle in yet because we have tubs and boxes everywhere.  The porch needs pressure washing and boards still need fixing.  However, we did take a few hours off to visit the Northwest’s largest garage and antique show.  It was held at the Clark County Event Center.  It was interesting and absolutely huge but we didn’t buy a thing.

It seems our Jeep which we left here over the winter may have a “major” problem.  We’re not so happy about that.  Our furnace is out at the home base and a repair person is scheduled on Friday.  In the meantime we do have a Mr. Heater and a couple electric heaters.  Thank goodness the temperatures will be in the 80’s this week.  In addition, it seems the air conditioning is out in the truck.  I think Mr. Murphy from Murphy’s Law has discovered where we are.

That’s a short update on our trip and about all I can put together for now.  I’m thinking you can tell how busy we’ve been if you realize I haven’t even posted a picture on this blog.  I think that’s a first !
