I can’t believe it’s been almost a week since I posted. Time is definitely flying by. It’s not that we’ve accomplished a lot but we’ve definitely been busy doing one thing or another. At our visit to the Mesa Swap Meet last week, we checked out some of the quadcopters (aka drones) there. After that, research began on those nifty little flying machines. I think anyone who knows us, know we like flying. We thought we might just take it a step farther and become a pilot. There are so many of those machines … little ones, big ones, slow ones, fast ones, cheap ones, expensive ones ….. I’m sure you get the drift.
There are also many places to purchase them .. Best Buy, Fry’s, Craigslist or even Amazon. Just like many “toys”, people buy them, use them and sell them after very little use. We went to Craigslist … my go-to store.
I posted this picture on Facebook and the results of our first piloting experience. Actually it was rather easy. No long study time to become a full-fledged pilot. We just had to register the contraption with the FAA and for $5 we had our pilot’s license. Our first take-off and landing resulted in two broken blades (but still usable), a lot of screaming and a neatly trimmed rose bush. What fun! You can bet there will be more to come on this.
There's the fence it almost went over and I'm in the left corner screaming to bring it back!

There is no doubt that Arizona can get mighty hot and with temperatures hitting near 100 this week, it’s just way too hot for us. We’ve finished our little bit of painting, packed and unpacked. We know our departure day, have the RV storage site lined up for 6 months but have yet to pick our route to Washington State. Our schedule for the days left in this area are getting pretty packed. Terry’s brother is flying in next week for a few days. So, when he leaves we’ll also be ready to roll.
We’ll be in Washington state most of the summer. In order to prevent “hitch-itch” we have decided to take a little mini-vacation once each month instead of just sitting still …… but we still have to get there first.
That’s it for now.
‘Tis life on the road.
I like the mini vacation idea. Years ago we used to go to the Sand Family cabin one weekend a month. That made it possible for us to do what we had to do the rest of the month. (At that time Dave was working full time and going to college half time so I was pretty much single parenting our daughter while working part time. We needed those breaks.)
ReplyDeleteShort duration trips are definitely great breaks from reality.
DeleteJim found a great place to fly his airplane and has finally learned to keep it under control pretty good. Have fun with the new toy. But it's only going to be warm a couple of days and then cool back down again - so that's not too bad.
ReplyDeleteHopefully we'll have time to fly it there !
DeleteHope you cleaned out enough STUFF so you can put all your new toys in the coach.
ReplyDeleteIf not, we'll do more cleaning. :)
DeleteNice new toy , have fun with it,
ReplyDeleteThen hit the road and head north travel safe.
Great little toy...I'm sure you will have lots of fun. Safe travels to Washington.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on becoming new pilots :-) We're keeping our eyes on that heat in the southern parts of the state, and staying north as long as we can avoid it! Hope you can get back to WA very soon.
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking about a drone for awhile, I just keep wondering how much I would actually use it.
ReplyDeleteJust like anything else we figure but they are sure fun for now and look at the pictures we will eventually get !
DeleteOh my gosh...what fun. You two are like little kids. You aren't going to become "Pepping Williams" right? lol
ReplyDeleteVery interested in seeing where these "mini" vacations take you two.
HAHA .... perhaps the Amish Country. Know anyone who lives around there? :)
